I was recently lucky enough to be invited to C&IT magazine’s Los Angeles Agency Forum and having never visited California I jumped at the chance to discover LA. The LA Tourism & Convention Board were fantastic hosts and created a show stopping trip that provided just a taste of the glamour and style that LA has to offer.
Now, I know what you are thinking, quit boasting Suzie and tell us what you have learnt! So without further ado, here are 8 top tips if you are thinking of LA:
- Leave your expectations at the airport
No matter what your preconceptions are of LA – do not bring them with you. The contrast between the different areas in LA provide a wide range of activities and cultures for an incentive trip – there’s something for everyone.
- Don’t be afraid to travel that bit further – you won’t regret it!
Make the flight part of the experience rather than a means to an end. Personalised flight gifts, surprise activities in the airport or if the budget allows, why not upgrade to Premium Economy? Virgin Atlantic’s Premium Economy product will set the bar for any event and with the opportunity to buyout the whole cabin, your group could enjoy an exclusive superior service.
- Treat yourself to the celebrity lifestyle
LA is home to some of Hollywood’s biggest stars but everyone has the opportunity to feel like a VIP. We visited The London Hotel in West Hollywood and had a private dinner served in their penthouse suite - the largest in the whole of LA! A perfectly luxurious experience to spoil any group!
- Embrace your inner child
Why not visit Universal Studios and indulge your inner child! Be it The Simpsons, Transformers, Jurassic Park or, like me, you are a Potter fan you will not be disappointed. Universal Studios has rides, VIP set tours and private spaces to hire.
- Keeping fit can be fun
It wouldn’t be a trip to LA without visiting the famous Runyon Canyon. Bikes and Hikes LA provide tours over the Canyon for groups of any ability. It’s a great team experience and the views over the city are spectacular! Working out like a celeb and selfies with the Downtown skyline are an LA must!
- Find adventure in your food
I was expecting burgers and fries…how wrong was I! The JW Marriott L.A. LIVE Hotel hosted us for the first two nights and their food would not have been out of place in an art gallery! Be it spit roast pig wraps, octopus flat breads or candy floss deserts that Heston would be proud of, the hotel really goes the extra mile to ensure food is a real occasion.
- Never judge a club by its entrance!
If you are looking for something that’s more Bowie than Bieber why not visit the Break Room 86 nightclub in Koreatown (part of the ultra-fashionable Line Hotel). The club is the surviving soul of the 80s with cassette tape walls, vintage video games and a set list that would get anyone dancing. The hidden entrance and surprise acts will fill the night with end to end excitement. Maybe take a while to mullet over!
- Make time for free time
Sometimes free time is the answer. Give people the opportunity to personalise their itinerary. They may want to spend the day shopping in Beverly Hills or visit the Hollywood Walk of Fame or pamper in the Montage Beverly Hills’s spa. Give guests the chance to enjoy LA their way.
