The weekend before last I had the privilege of joining the annual @GlobalDMCs Connection event (search #GDPConnection on Twitter for more!) so I thought I'd share my wonderful experience through my blog this week!
The Connection is in its third year and brings together event planners and DMCs from around the world to 'connect' and share best practices on Meetings and Incentive Travel.
Now my weekend did start pretty terribly after serious flight issues at Gatwick but the less said about that the better really.
When I (finally) arrived at the enormous Hard Rock Resort Punta Cana, Dominican Republic it all seemed pretty wonderful; an all-inclusive weekend in the Caribbean compliments of our trusted partners - there are some great perks of working in the events industry - yes please!
The itinerary was nicely packed but also allowed for some free time in the sunshine which was well received by myself and fellow UK guests given our experience of the British summer so far!
Friday evening took us off-site to a local Barcelo hotel in Punta Cana for an amazing beach party. The resort put on a great spectacular of acrobatic dancers, followed by a few local cocktails and some dancing on the beach. Us event planners know how to enjoy ourselves!
Saturday morning was our chance to network with new and existing partners and also enjoy a couple of business sessions. Agencies were given the opportunity to share knowledge in a best practice session, and then everyone received some fabulous insights into the global economy and how it's impacting the travel industry by USA economics company Oxford Economics. Obviously with the announcement of #brexit happening the day prior this was certainly a hot topic!
I came away with some fabulous insights to the industry, amazing ideas for incentive destinations and new supplier contacts that I can't wait to work with; @wildgooseevents and @songdivision to name just a couple.
Then after a hard day’s work I experienced my first white party, we went to @puntacanaresort which is undergoing a large amount of development and, when finished, will host hundreds of hotel rooms and meeting facilities all in one place- an event planners dream!
Our hosts put on another fantastic show of cultural folklore dancing and a fabulous feast. Our British group did lower the tone slightly by singing along to the Grease soundtrack though so sorry about that!
So after a lazy Sunday morning in the sunshine it was sadly time to head home and thankfully my journey home was less eventful than my outbound one!
A big well done to Global DMC Partners for such a fabulous weekend and their local hosts @ECT_Romain We're looking forward to next year’s connection already and continuing our work with you and your local partners!
